our love is not fleeting

blinked and all had changed
fleeting, the places and faces
being inattentive to them
eroding their presence

this is just life
the changing of summer to fall
winter to spring
the wanton swirling of wind
day and the night
the beating of the heart

but my love wanes not
it’s tethered to your touch
it hearkens for your smile
wishes for your kiss
it hopes that you will sit
by my side until the two
of us make way to depart

that moment

when the moment comes
if my heart aches and my mind no
longer wishes to entertain the pain
so great distracting from life and
my soul no longer feels the spirit
of verve in the smallest of things
then let it be by my own hand
that my pain shall be lifted

when colors no longer have their hue,
waters no longer quench my thirst,
the sounds of song in nature’s nest
are muffled and no longer move
my feet to dance then i shall wish
to lay down my body to sleep

but until then;

i shall keenly listen
to your voice, feel the gentle touch
of your hand in mine, hold you close
as we stroll along listening to the
sounds  and the song of the wind,
let the light enter my eyes from the day
and the moons light and glitter of night

i shall let my heart beat fast when i see
your face and the warmth of our embrace
i shall, until that moment comes, give of me
to you with all that i am and hope that
in my smile you will know that love
had entered into our special place

this shadow is me

hope, a literary expression of a new beginning
like spring and freshness or morning sunlight
one is human the others natural
yet what links them is the emanation of newness
freshness, the mornings dawn of a new beginning

we notice the storm come in because its ominous
yet afterwards shadows are cast, they come not from
the sun or dance to a lively burning fire
but come from the tree, from the mountain, the edifice
and our winged friends cast their shadow, their souls,
onto the ground as they soar overhead in joy

this

speaks to the notion that what energy of light,
freshness of spring or the dawn, like hope,
begins anew it radiates, emanates from within

we

i

have that in me

if pleasure be the height of all passion in human life
and love gives that pleasure like the sun gives light,
then let…*the sunlight grasp the earth and the
moon beams kiss the sea, for what is all this kissing’s
worth if thou kiss not me

the Fall bares my soul

in the Fall the trees are denuded of leaves
by the cold, the seasonal change, except for
a few that stubbornly cling, hold on tight
and when the white of winter snow covers
the tops of limbs, these leaves wear the snow
like shawls, dressed for the dance with the wind

tall green leaf sprouts of lilies and tulips
lay wet and still on mother earth’s chest
awaiting for the synthesis into loam,
the sacrifice to feed newborn in life's quest

like the lonely leaf that bears the cold
holding onto the finger and hand of its root,
my soul hangs onto this incarnate being
to wear the mundane wrappings so that the
eyes behold, the ears fill with nature’s song,
the lips kiss the day and night and the heart
dances in the embrace of love

little memories

glorious is the mornings awakening
and mine ears are fancied by  music
echoing soft violin strings of Mozart’s soul

the day still is dark of its nocturnal sleep
as i reflect upon the juxtaposed stories
in my dreams and i hearken a new day

my body lies still, consumes the last morsels
of night slumber and avails itself of
the comforts beset in this restful nest

when i rise my steps will stroll amidst
the rustling and voices from afar,
the rumbling tires from a passing car,
a canine friend barking in the morning mist

i listen to the sounds sometimes
thinking i hear the sun rising
as a breeze shakes the leaves of trees,
humming of the bumble bees
and petals of flowers stretching
for the warmth of its embrace

when once again the moon smiles at me
and mine eyes take pleasure in observing
Orion’s belt bending and dipping
with Ursa Major trying to entice
Draco into a dance as Sirius looks on

my soul will soon travel into their space
my heart will be interned in the arms
of Earth leaving memories my eyes beheld,
my ears heard, the smell of roses,
the tears and the smiles my heart has felt

into thy arms you lift me
in your embrace i shall whisper
…no regrets, for my time here is spent
where i have gathered many flowers
and left planted seeds for a garden to grow

northern wind

spring, when it arrives brings enlightenment,
refreshes my soul
but when Autumn ascends it envelops
my being with introspection

i see change before my eyes
where bright greens, reds and yellows
turn to browns, auburns and russets
the strong stout arms of trees
become brittle and their thistle, tassels and
leafy garb drop covering their rooted toes

the warm breath of summer
now bristles with cool in the mornings,
the days are powdered with grey
and the wind blows down
from the northern sky

this brings me to notice that time
now running quicker as dusk to dawn
seem to arrive closer and all else
moves at a pace of languor

i pause to cherish the change
yet the quibble within me is of the
notion that my wish of loving and
being loved is not slowed by the winds
of the north

and while i sit alone pondering
lifes’ moment, somewhere in the
distant not of place or time,
all of this will not have been
in vain

a storm within

rain falls as a sheer curtain that
drops from grey clouds whose
forms are silhouetted barely discernible
in the dark of night as thunder crawls in a
rumble then a harrowing snap, crack,
then the whitest of light traverses
like a spiders web throughout the whole
expanse of the sky  and
like a jagged spear, a shard
travels down touching the earth.
the oceans white caps on top of waves,
jumping, can be seen rolling onto the edge
of the black horizon

the sand is a cold wet between my toes
as i dig them under the top layer,
my arms wrap around my folded legs
gathered up against my chest.
i sit here pondering my fate amidst
an angry storm that hovers ominously
above my head and yet i fear not
its presence for in my mind a storm
of its own lingers as the synapses charge
even more actively than this world outside

this solitary summon is but a moments choice,
a reprieve from the strife, the pangs of life
that have enveloped my being, giving me
a posit, a channeling of queries. why so much
turmoil is pronounced amidst humankind while the
angry voice of Nature repossesses its home upon this
rock floating aimlessly through a universe whose
consciousness is niether known or understood
by a mutated gene form species called ‘man’?
a presence that has been nothing less than careless
whilst blaming an indeterminate force, a divinity,
as responsible for our creation and
for leaving us here to flounder

a golden autumn day

the golden autumn’s eye rises slowly
and with a crispness in the air
it shimmies off fields of grass
the earth landscape is crystal lined
as the dew freezes in the cool of night
the croaks of toads no longer heard
the crickets sit silent and the cicadas
have left harden shells for toddlers eyes
to ooh and ah and somewhere tiny hands will
carry them into classrooms to scare the others

the rumble and the squeal of brakes, the flashing
amber and red lights fill the darkness of the morning
on the corners of suburban streets
little feet begin to climb up rubber lined steps
inside the large lemon yellow wheeled capsule
that will transport them to brick façade edifices
inside are marble floors of long corridors, echoed
sounds of slamming locker doors and that pernicious
Pavlov’s ringing bell, the call for the gathering of
marching feet, collecting into designated rooms and
the sounds of scurrying squeaking soles of tennis shoes
leaving eerily, barren now, the soon to be hallowed halls

distant from where this all began in suburban streets
smoke is billowing from open garage doors where
cars sit idling waiting for the hot cup of coffee
to be placed atop the hoods or roofs of Fords, Chevys,
Buicks or Hondas and the ‘puters’ are slid into back seats.
for some there’s waving of their partners looking out
the front window or front door steps holding in their arms
the smallest of their progeny to say their diurnal goodbyes
as the car backs out onto the street to battle and maneuver
through jamming streets of cars and trucks, horns and
blinking lights, journeying on to their offices or cubicles
where commerce begins and for some a good beginning of day
and outside the yellow eye of day now hangs at eight o’clock.

embracing october

october, month for reflection
did I participate in life enough
give of myself sufficiently ?

i close my eyes
picture spring and summer's past
now, i welcome the rustic autumn
(mamasita’s favorite time of year)

lift into my arms
my aging blind and deaf lap friend
whisper in his ear
gracias for giving me your love

we shall sit together
by the fireplace and when
you feel up to playing
i’ll carry you and place you on a pile
of raked leaves, you so love to play in

we will invite your sister
sit on the patio lounge chair or
on a blanket on the grass
watch the stars gather to applaud
our bonding love

your mother, my human love, will sit next to us
and we will hold you with a warm embrace,
kiss our way through the chill of night

then i will carry you slowly into the house
where the fire still crackles in the fireplace
and we will lay you both on our bed
next to us and thank the universal spirit
for one more day with you

calculus of my being

i sit before this tree staring at its large trunk
knowing of the many suns and moons it has seen
whose limbs expand as wide as the sky,
the many tumultuous winds it has survived
the lost fingered limbs having been regenerated

pondering on this feeling of discomfit of
where my place in the calculus of this i belong,
the days stimuli has led me here to sit
and think that the disarray of my being
can be calmed ~ohm~ release the me, become this tree

in this torpor , i shall find the quiet stillness,
will reap benefits of freshness and lucidity,
replace the mixed up feelings of many things much like
the contents of various drawers overturned on to the floor,
i know that the scarlet-colored sun will fill
the hollowness of my weary hours

let's walk together

we are together from afar
i see you but you don’t see me
we have not walked into each other’s breath

moments where i’d try to close our space
you’ve not been witness to my presence
our souls know each other. they are a part of
the whole of the universal spirit

we have walked amidst a common space
have drank from waters of the same lakes
brooks and streams my ears have listened
to songs of birds hoping you have too

if your eyes can see, theirs a cloud above
hovering over both of us and a grandiose mountain
tickling it with its pointed nose, it’s watched us
from where our journeys began and the path we’re on

if you have smelled the waft of lilacs and sassafras,
fresh morning grass and have noticed the rain’s cool
splash as you tilt your face up to the sky,
we have been in a common place

although you have not felt me in your presence
i am here with you walking through the day
and night, your pain is mine and so too your joy

i am a man of blood and bone with a heart
that wishes to share with you my inner most thoughts
share my vision of the world around us
and maybe we can walk along together
for the remaining days on this blue green orb

seasons gentle kiss

trees have begun to shed their verdant attire
now in wrappings of a roan chemise
and the songs of my feather morning friends
have changed from a symphony choir
to a quartet in a decrescendo tune

i am gathering these days and weeks
with arms wide and stretched embrace

and squeezing what little is left into cupped hands
the hording of morning air, the sleepy flowers
of autumn and their reverie whisperings of
the passing warm summer’s day

i welcome the template of nature’s change
not wishing it coming to soon
for my ankles, my knees, my fingers, my hands
they read too quickly the gray and the gloom
as do my hair and my skin, aging change, they display
the trees where once vibrant and gay
now grasp for the slight shards of sun
piercing the day

oh labyrinth of life show me the way
make gentle the callings of my day
for my legs no longer of equine strength
my arms writhed in slumber of age
and my sleepings and wakings,
what’s left , are now in display

make common my laughter
and softly the kiss of the day
and to those who love me
lift their spirits in a celebration
to when came the joining of our hearts
and make gentle to them, like this changing
of season,  as i ride away

eat your dessert

let us purge the poison
with which we’ve been drunk
all the hate we’ve consumed
carelessly in lieu of tasting love
but then pushing away
like a dessert that stimulates
the desire of our taste buds yet
think it to be too full of calories

tell me of your inner soul
who used to like to eat
that which tasted good
drank from a well of spring water
and shared it with others

speak to me of a wondrous
blue sky hovering over all mankind
embraces all of space without prejudice
and that sun that shines
giving nutrients to all whose
rays like fingers, touches

sing to me that song your
mother whispered in your ear
telling you the words of that say
where theirs love you need not fear,
if you wish to sate your heart and soul
consume that dessert we call love

night's journey

it is time to be still
to listen to my heart beat
hear my breath
listen to the rhythm of my soul

let the spirit of life that surrounds
be a part of me
i can dance by standing still
sing my song without yelling

i can hear the mountain move
and the trees sway
as the wind plays in their lair
and the streams and rivers
titillate their very soul

in my stillness i can hear the sparkle
of star dust fall
onto my path where i reside
it calls to me letting me know
it is the melody of my soul

i can sense the energy we call dark
that holds the stars in place
in its universe light plays
and it calls out to me...
‘be still my friend and you will
hear me call, you will see my soul,
you will take my hand and i shall
lead you to your mother land’

it summons me, not now but soon
so i shall stand still and listen,
be aware of what is before me
so that i may become one with all
and my soul shall take the journey
in the quiet of night

welcome the day

Oh, silvery moon that pleasures mine eyes
and the glitter adorning your black veil
many dreams you’ve inspired as i became
a prince, a savior in my reveries

Helios, el sol del mundo,
so many mornings you’ve awaken me
sometimes in a rainbow filled with rain drops
that fall from heaven with hypnotic
tickling upon the window pane liken
the beginnings of my days

so many breaths have been bestowed
upon my heart and soul making me
the wealthiest of all, not needing to be
sustained or tethered by worldly possessions

i’ve been given the greatest of treasures
the most wondrous of gifts
through sharing my heart, my soul,
when first i learned i was loved

truly grateful to be instilled with this
and in light that my gratitude may fall
upon an unfeeling universal spirit
my heart is still better for it

transmuting

before you, i stand naked
but for a gold chain
hanging from my neck
with a gold carved small eagle
also an Aztec calendar pendant
as titivation

a symbol of my inner soul
where in a different journey
i soared like an eagle and
my day was ruled by
of an Aztec sun and moon

and when i lay my eyes to close
i am taken to this place
in the spirit of the universe
where truth aligns and
shares the dark of space

peering down i witness a curious
bipedal species traversing upright
no feathers, not much hair
moving about holding each
others hanging limbs picking my
blueberries and apples off the trees

they seem a calm and peaceful bunch
they herd together and bend their limbs
sit about in circled rings on grassy knolls
making noise coming from their throats
as they leer up at me and i stare down
wondering of them, how it is to be

i wander on, through soft clumps of white
letting the wind lift me underneath my wings
i come upon the earth bound sky of water
instinctively my talons appear
and i soar down, down to clench
the silvery scale of a meal meant for me

upon a promontory i perch to feed
my belly full, preen my feather coat
and reflect upon the curious species
i came upon seemingly calling up
toward my sky wishing to be like me

crickets chirping awaken me.
i sense a pair of eyes staring down from above
leering upon me curiously as if to wonder
what it would be like to be me
my eyelids blink open, i stare into darkness
but for a slither of defused white light
piercing through a window blind

a plea

five in the morning and the stars
hang, glittering, in all their brilliance
pin pricked onto a black canvas

crickets, crickets, crickets, ceaseless
cool air and the stars reflection glisten off
blades of grass sparkling from dew

the cool wet mingles between my toes
standing, arms stretched out, hands open,
head tilted looking up, I ask for help

my plea is not for me but for those
that cannot do what I am doing
without fear, without hunger, without pain

if i stand here long enough transmitting
these well-wishes, maybe, just maybe
star dust will fall all around

grateful, deep, deep, I inhale this cool morn…
into my soul, exhale it onto the spirit of life
for all to share, all to breathe

smile, fills the space

Oh, smile, you who lingers in the corner
where you’ve chosen to hide. come out take the place
of sadness for it has stayed too long.

come out, smile, take the place of pain and anguish
for my bones have become brittle and can no longer
carry the weight

if you could just but for a moment peer out
to give my heart my soul a little moment of reprieve
from the misery of struggle, from the cry of strife

i will welcome you with the warmth of my
embrace and coddle you and of this sadness,
take its place

i will sing for you and play my guitar
and run through fields of wild flowers,
kick and splash the waters of the creeks and
streams and if you evince with the day

the radiance of your smile, the sun will
foster from me in the same .
humbly, i’m but a speck in the multi-universes
but with a smile i fill the whole of space

“the soul would have no rainbow if the eye had no tears”

my eyes have seen the sky kiss mountain tops
they have witnessed trees play in the wind
the breathless capture of Eagles soaring in and out
through cotton clouds while playing tag with the Sun

my eyes have drunk the tear drops falling from above
and momentarily blinded by the flashing spears of Thor
as i would run through the forest smiling at my reflection in
pristine streams as creatures play watching me naked that I am

my eyes have captured mothers kisses of their child
the frolicking of fathers with their sons till dusk
taken to the crimson and gold sunsets as the day begins
to wane yet realizing it is just sleeping till the waking
by a flaming sun promising us a new day

these calm and heart-warming visions calm mine eyes
yet in their periphery have also witnessed pangs of life
in the tears of mother’s loss and the fathers letting go
their sons to that human tragic game called war

being blindly lead to believing they’re way of life is being
threatened, woven through a mesh of distrust and fear mongering
by the selfish needs of the power hungry promulgating
a one option notion only; to eliminate challengers to their hoarding ways

Nature’s bed has been scathed and ravaged by the uncaring hand
where these eyes had once seen verdant fields and seas of joy,
tears flow from smog filled air once where Eagles called their lair
now falling through grey sky onto the scorn of Earths disrepair

in the slightest of soft voices coming from the nights
are the lamenting hearts from our children begging, outright
through songs of hope pleading to us if love still remains within
our souls to leave them forests to play amidst and oceans to sale
and with their own eyes, maybe, to see that rainbow in the sky

in dedication to imaginary garden with real toads
