Sated Crescent Moon

 the Crescent Moon
     waits knowing soon
          while consuming light
               it will be full

                          the Sea it waves
                            at the Moon
                            with joy for sharing
                                its feed of light

                                             the Owl perched
                                          with eyes wide open
                                             observes the wisdom
                                               of this gathering

                                                          while my eyes sleep
                                                the Moon beams
                                               kiss the Sea
                                             rhe starlet’s glitter
                                            with glee

                                                when I wake
                                       I shall revel
                                     knowing there was
                                   Love goings on

                                     dawning of the Sun
                             smiles in brilliant rays
                          sharing with the Day
                       as it did sating the
                     Crescent Moon

to open eyes, ears, and hearts

a sitting stone on the river’s bank
running white caps over pebbles,
leaves and branches
a little spotted toad clears its water drenched eyes
lifts its head up o’er to stare my way

who are you and why did you come,
he asks
I can only smile then look away
into my own reverie stream
where my night time dreams
had left me

there’s a calming in my soul
that has entered,
a day ago forlorn
this moment now
it’s at rest

today, those who sneered
at me yesterday because
of my brown skin,
at least appreciate my food
my drink

without looking I can sense
the little toad still staring
my way
it understands that I know
what it is to be
a little toad most days
he now smiles and
we both stare into the stream

second chance

I sit still on this stump soon
to be fodder for Mother earth
birds perch next to me
a squirrel eats the seed from my hand
gaggle of geese waddle near me
a doe and fawn still hide behind the brush
chewing their flora with one eye watching me
the sun lays a soft veil upon my face
and the wind whistles the days tune

when I used to run and yell
I would call attention to myself
then little would approach
animals scurried away
stares would come my way
and human vanity was embraced
blinding me of things that really mattered
and of those who really cared

life ran fast away
my eyes forgot to look,
my ears did not hear,
roses alluded my smell
feel of grass and cool stream water
were somewhat remiss and my heart
gave little and so little was returned

but as I sit here, still,
hearken my memories in reverie
of those who extended their hand
a little of their heart
not judging me on my stature
or comparing my diminished
wordsmith skill set my inability to
paint just the right hue of blue
choosing free verse in lieu
of rhythm, meter and rhyme

a quiet solitude
in Mother Nature's embrace
this is what I choose for now
I shall depart covered
with the wrappings of life
and the gift bared, called Love,
providing me with a second chance

rhythm and time

enter into my reverie
you who hath taken
hold of my heart tenfold

forgive me for my stepping on thy toes
but we’ve danced the night through
and we've tired and callous feet

we began our steps in rythm
and synchrony with your head
laid gently on my shoulder

the warmth of your breath
giving pleasure to the nape
of my neck as we glide without care

the scent of lilac in the air
could have only come from the
flowing strands of your hair

it has been a tender calling
when entwined in each others arms
as we smirk upon the face of time

the music no longer
can I hear
in my aging ear
but we dance on

insulated home

climbed out from underneath
fresh washed cotton sheets
warmth and surreal dreams
filled my comforted nights sleep

awaken by radio waves full with
cries from victims of hellish noise
from firecracker sounds and whaling
sirens from vehicles flashing
red, white and blue lights

one demon still roams amidst us,
I am told, he's sought for causing
a violent early death of a child,
a young lady and a student
visiting our 'welcoming lady liberty'

if and when they capture him,
this dead soul swallowed by a demon,
will then my soul be calmed and secure
in this insulated island nation?

I now huddle back underneath
my security Charlie blanket
envied by ostriches in sand
all is well again no more demons
I cover my mirrors

conductors beat

in the beginning
your smile stood
next to the Sun
your whispers
floated in the breeze
your touch made
the pedals of a lily
envious
your heart beat
conducted the
grand symphony

time has quietly
gathered a cloud
in the face of the Sun
the wind has whirled
separating young leaves
from their birth place
and the lilies have gone
into a nocturnal sleep
and still I am
sitting in the first seat
awaiting your batons
lead of my hearts beat

howling soon

unlike the solitary wolf when
his howl is no longer heard
by the moon, the stars or the
sleeping owl whose diurnal trail
of forest wild flowers where
it once laid its head upon
and no longer feels its warmth and breath

its prey no longer fears its
intrepid blue eyed stare
gawking, stalking, with its
canine pack whose absence is
now noticed from its herding place
where once it roamed and howled
at the stars of night

my canine friend, his curious
loving stare with dark brown eyes
lays his head upon my lap
while I stream the artful words
writ upon a leaf made from
a tree that once gave shelter
in the forest to his ancestry

unlike his ancester the wolf
whose absence is felt by the wind
and the moon, this human heart
shall ache, many tears will flow,
in the absence of his warmth
and his beating heart that has
been so loved and still
resting upon my lap

although still lying next to me
his moans of aging aches and pain
I feel deeply in my own bones
for soon in days to come
I must let his body rest
and free his soul to enter
into where love never sleeps
that ethereal nest

good day

My day begins with cravings
for the air, for the smells,
the sounds, the sunrise
that shares the sky

harkens to a calming soul
when all around, beyond
there’s noise of hate and war

observe the faces
of those near
and in their eyes
I see fear

they walk about
like zombie automatons
no say on if they
may live another day

all pray to their
God, Allah, their Ohm
for intervention
to keep their
earthly home

I wish this writ
to be a song of
blue streams where
flowers bloom
but all around
are tears, laments
of doom and gloom

but, this does not stop
or wane my cravings
for the fresh of a
new beginning
I shall look for that
embrace of love
and share with someone
my new day

I stand still

I stand still

                                                 a receptacle,

                          quiet, I hear

           leaves, they sigh

                                            white cottons dangling

   whistling in sync

                           to the music

of yore

                                                    they wave, so long,

    to the cold breath

                of yester-year

they heat their

                  feet in the

                             warmth of the sun

                                  rinse their sweat

                                             to the foliage below

                                                           without care

                                                of where it falls

                                      and who or what

                              may drink

                  knowing only that

          its done what it

was meant to do

                                                          I sit here quiet

                                                          wondering what

                                                          it is that I

                                                          must do

short soliloquy

I can hear you breathe
in the absence of light
and can see your smile
when you’re not here

we’ve tallied in our hearts
moments no one else doth know
secrets just for us alone
in Spring, Summer and
written in the snow

our whispers shared
when pressed against
each others warmth,
in our waning years
when memory no longer
serves us well,
we will remember this

read these words and
listen to my song, my love,
for when our two vessels can
no longer touch, our words
will, as a song, in the 'multiverse'
live on

empty cold

A single waxen figure
with molten base sits on a sill
reflection on the window pane
a tiny flame flickers in the dark of night
it waggles in a breeze that
has found an unseen cranny
between drywall and wooden frame

casting flailing shadows on the wall
that promenade as day light falls
and dances amidst the stars of night
with the tempo from  the candle light

a flaming arrow pierces
the black of sky as all sits still
and the eyes of nature
watches it race by

the solace and the solitude
gives rise to an emptiness of
a cold and vacuous night when
there's absence of a heart in
a living body or presence
of no soul

My friend, time

gathered in the palm of my hands
with a warm embrace
my friend,  time.

she looked at me
and I asked her if she’d
sit with me awhile

she smiled
we found this bench
overlooking the ocean blue

next to me she sat
we could have talked
about what was, what is
or what is to be

but we were entranced
by the suns cape and
roar of the sea

 the waves would rise
to touch the sky as the
ocean breeze played
underneath the Ospreys wings

 the sun then winked
as it lay its head
on the azure bed

soon then, the lunar
beams kissing the sea
and stars competing for space

looked down at time
asked if she was ready to go
she smiled
…let’s sit here
a little while longer

do you read me

tender is the thought
that my words, you’ve read
have touched your heart

that the spirit of my song
has held a wind on your wings
and you dance with me

that you judge me not
for the words I do not use
or those I do, are no less of skill
at writing songs than yours

I notice you dance
with many who sing to you
 synchronize your words,
not missing a step while
sharing  each other’s verse

I see the beauty of an azalea
as I do in a daisy
a rose is no more beautiful
than a tulip
a cardinal to a robin
a maple to an oak

embracing each other creates
a lovely painting
all smile at each other
with loving grace

for all
are beautiful
on this canvas
they all have a 'say'

Pray-tell

Oh pray-tell, what brings of this day,
a new nascence to my soul?
the new songs my friendly feathered
friends do sing about my window pane;
the wind  whistling  a Spring-like trend
a warm smile of the mother sun
in her yellow-gold apron delight,
earlier, doth arrive

pray-tell, of this also brings the wares,
the adornments of rainbow colors
sprinkled about the sleeping arboreal
and perennial cousins nesting at their feet;
it brings the snorts and squeal of the cow moose,
the yawnings in the lions den,
the running of the salmon in the streams

pray-tell, will tiny heads pop up to peek
from their leaf covered terrestrial openings
where hibernation had taken place
and now it’s time to find blueberries
and acorns and grasses for roughage
then scurry to wrestle in the neighbors nest

pray-tell, this be the season of new borne
where the sounds of life abounds;
mountainous ravines have formed
where snow capped tops have morphed
into wild running rivers and the bear
has awaken to play to bathe and find
its meal

pray-tell, all will cherish this new day
who walk along as lovers holding hands
barefoot in the grass and sand
music fills the air wher’st no room for anguish
and anger, graciousness showing to each other
the sounds of laughter, the sounds of care

pray-tell, pray-tell, pray-tell, tell me if you dare

the smile of Spring

soft and kind
the approaching breath
rearranges my being
my eyes see clearer
all of nature seems
to wear a sheen

smiles abound
I hear the hearts
they flutter with glee
although there is
pain and suffering
somewhere,  today
I bathe in it’s water

a freshness appears
In the eyes of Spring

bye, anger

Leave me, fly away
Anger

let me be with joy
a smile
it wishes

emote
without you, Anger
go away

you waste my time
I cannot see
when you stand
in front of me

you darken my heart
those around me
see you

 go away
I wish to choose
my friends
you are not my choice

Anger, you dwell on the past
you blind me
I cannot see before me

you cause much trouble
Anger
there’s no room for you
in my life

 ‘tat’ your face
upon my heart
ha! no room, it’s
filled  with love

so go away
let me be
be the demon
you wish to be
but not with me

Dance with me?

Destiny. a belief abounds
voices call it necessary
but not for me
my determinism is
my choice, I'm free

Like words on this page
that arise spontaneously
and I choose
to write them down
as I see them

In lieu of the chaos
sometimes desiring anarchy,
the richness of synchrony
and mellifluousness of harmony
ascends upon me

I choose to think of Love
of music and poetry
of those things that
have made men smile
and women dance

gently take my hand
lets sing the words we all know
remind ourselves we are one
give and share of oneself
let us dance

the kiss

shadows fall
cast down by this fiery ball
it unfurls its will upon it all
small big short or tall

It remembers when first
the rock billowed upon its path
kept it at a distance
grasping it with gaseous tips

It kissed the rock upon its lips
gave it warmth and asked its
lunar kin to brighten the night
and from the melted ice of space
to crest and ebb the tide

if it came too close
it pushed it away
cooled in the dark of space
and while it slept
borne fauna and flora
then  the human race

have there been other kisses
given in the vastness of space
and if we slight this embrace
will all be lost to chaos
never again to be kissed

don't walk away

glittering speckled flakes
falling from my face
in the sun they glisten
in the night they’re unseen
in the daylight
I turn away so
no one sees my face
at night I stand still
in the dark
breathing quietly
if at all
alone, I strum my guitar
of lamenting strings
verses floating on a puddle
of tears at my feet
some may listen to my song
but then, all walk away
I listen every morning
to my only friends
nesting upon
their arboreal lair
they never walk away
although, they can fly free
but always they come back
to greet me the next day
