today, i awaken with a smile

breathe the air of life

hearing its song

tasting its sustenance

i step one foot at a time

into the day because today

i’m able to walk

if you see me in passing

and return my smile

i'll know that your heart,

your soul is in the same place

as mine

i'll pass mine on

and our smile will

be kind to one another
for that is how joy begins
