my incarnate shell to rest

from when once i ran with the wind chasing

the deer, climbing the trees to see what my

friends perched on limbs could see, i now

walk gingerly, mine eyes squint to see the

colors of seasons, my body becoming frail

so when i lay my body down to rest for all

eternity, i wish to lay it in the snow or in

a winter’s day, so that when it turns cold,

it won’t know warm blood once flowed

within, anymore

that when they find and lift it from the cold

the last of its warmth will leave an imprint in

the snow for those who knew me and will

remember me, when young and stupid, then

hopefully, wiser and kinder when old
